Short answerA policy that covers a road marathon may not cover a trail ultra, mountain race or multi-day event. Check the maximum distance and altitude covered, whether remote routes are allowed and who pays for search and rescue.

Describe the real event
When contacting a provider, give the event name, distance, terrain, maximum altitude, whether it is timed, whether it spans multiple days and whether participation is amateur. Keep any written clarification with the policy documents.
Rescue and medical transport are not always the same
Transport after medical treatment, help from a remote location and search-and-rescue costs may be covered separately. Check what each section pays for, the limits and whether you need approval before arranging help.
